# Education

Practice choosing a behavior, planning a realistic test, and deciding what the evidence permits. This teaching pack uses public records from M-PESA, Instagram, and GOV.UK Verify. You can work alone or lead a session without contacting the author.

**Start with [M-PESA: choose the next test](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/mpesa-decision/)** and the [decision workbook](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/decision-workbook/). Write your decision before opening the worked analysis. The case has two defensible responses, so agreement with the author is not the objective.

## Choose your route

| What you want to do | Start here | What you produce |
|---|---|---|
| Try one complete decision | [Solo practice](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/solo-practice/) | A completed workbook and a revised recommendation |
| Teach a group | [90-minute workshop](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/workshop/) | A case discussion, an evidence-based decision, and a transfer exercise |
| Compare possible target behaviors | [Choose a target behavior](https://behavioralstrategy.com/methodology/choose-target-behavior/) | Alternatives that include reducing what the user must do |
| Plan a field test | [Validate Behavior Market Fit](https://behavioralstrategy.com/methodology/validate-behavior-market-fit/) | An observation plan with denominators, support costs, and decision rules |
| Practice interpreting results | [Measurement lab](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/measurement-lab/) | Calculations from fictional records and a decision that respects missing evidence |
| Adapt or print the material | [Teaching downloads](https://behavioralstrategy.com/downloads/#public-teaching-pack) | Editable worksheets and slides, printable packets, data, and source notes |

## Three public decision cases

| Case | Practice question | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| [M-PESA](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/mpesa-decision/) | Which behavior deserves the next test, and can the delivery system support it? | [Two worked responses](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/mpesa-worked-decision/) |
| [Instagram](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/instagram-decision/) | Does a promising use of a feature justify choosing a narrower target behavior? | [Worked analysis](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/instagram-worked-decision/) |
| [GOV.UK Verify](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/verify-decision/) | What should a team do when identity checks and completed public services have different denominators? | [Worked analysis](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/verify-worked-decision/) |

These are retrospective teaching reconstructions. They do not establish that the organizations used Behavioral Strategy, DRIVE, or the Behavior Fit Assessment. Public accounts leave important questions unanswered. The exercises ask you to make those gaps part of the decision.

## What the pack does and does not establish

The pack offers a proposed teaching sequence and original analysis of public sources. Its timings are planning estimates. Independent teaching trials and prospective evaluations of the integrated method have not yet been completed. A finished worksheet is a record of reasoning, not a validated fit score or professional qualification.

The [teaching notes](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/teaching-notes/) give a discussion rubric, source boundaries, adaptation guidance, and an optional host observation record. The [evidence overview](https://behavioralstrategy.com/evidence/) explains the wider method's evidence status.

## Build the background as you need it

Read the [definition](https://behavioralstrategy.com/definition/) and [Quick Start](https://behavioralstrategy.com/quick-start/) for orientation. Use the [glossary](https://behavioralstrategy.com/glossary/) when a term is unfamiliar. The [reading list](https://behavioralstrategy.com/education/reading-list/) covers personality science, field experiments, measurement, and user research; the [research library](https://behavioralstrategy.com/evidence/research-library/) connects to papers and study limitations.

The Behavioral State Model is a practitioner diagnostic model with six Personal Components: Personality, Perception, Emotions, Abilities, Social Status/Situation, and Motivations. It also includes two Context Components: the Social Environment and Physical Environment. The Behavioral State Model is a practitioner model, not a validated psychometric instrument or a universal prediction equation.
