Behavior Fit Assessment Worksheet
Use this worksheet to apply the Behavior Fit Assessment during the Research phase of DRIVE.
Rule: All three dimensions must score ≥6/10 to proceed. If any score is below 6, you’re forcing, not matching.

INSTRUCTIONS
Before committing to a target behavior, evaluate it against three dimensions.
All three must score ≥6/10 to proceed. If any scores below 6, you're forcing.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SECTION 1: DEFINE THE CONTEXT
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Target Population: _______________________________________________________________
(Be specific: demographics, psychographics, context)
Desired Outcome: _________________________________________________________________
(What result are you trying to achieve? Not the behavior, but the outcome.)
Candidate Behaviors (list 3-5 that could achieve this outcome):
1. ______________________________________________________________________________
2. ______________________________________________________________________________
3. ______________________________________________________________________________
4. ______________________________________________________________________________
5. ______________________________________________________________________________
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SECTION 2: SCORE EACH BEHAVIOR
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
For each candidate behavior, score your target population on all three dimensions.
BEHAVIOR 1: ______________________________________________________________________
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ IDENTITY FIT │
│ Does this behavior align with who they see themselves as? │
│ │
│ Consider: Do users see this behavior as "someone like me" behavior? │
│ Do they believe it's valuable and worth doing? Would it enhance or │
│ threaten their social standing? │
│ │
│ Score: _______ /10 │
│ │
│ Notes: ______________________________________________________________________│
│ _____________________________________________________________________________│
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ CAPABILITY FIT │
│ Can they actually perform this behavior? │
│ │
│ Consider: Do they have the skills and knowledge? Physical ability? │
│ Access to required tools or resources? Time and cognitive capacity? │
│ │
│ Score: _______ /10 │
│ │
│ Notes: ______________________________________________________________________│
│ _____________________________________________________________________________│
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ CONTEXT FIT │
│ Does their environment support this behavior? │
│ │
│ Consider: Does their emotional state support the behavior? Does it │
│ connect to existing motivations? Do social norms encourage it? │
│ Does the physical environment enable it? │
│ │
│ Score: _______ /10 │
│ │
│ Notes: ______________________________________________________________________│
│ _____________________________________________________________________________│
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
MINIMUM SCORE: _______ (lowest of the three)
VIABLE? □ Yes (all ≥6) □ No (any <6)
[Repeat for Behaviors 2-5]
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SECTION 3: SELECTION DECISION
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SUMMARY TABLE
| Behavior | Identity | Capability | Context | Minimum | Viable? |
|----------|----------|------------|---------|---------|---------|
| 1. | /10 | /10 | /10 | | Y / N |
| 2. | /10 | /10 | /10 | | Y / N |
| 3. | /10 | /10 | /10 | | Y / N |
| 4. | /10 | /10 | /10 | | Y / N |
| 5. | /10 | /10 | /10 | | Y / N |
DECISION:
□ SELECTED BEHAVIOR: __________________________________________________________
(Choose the viable behavior with the highest minimum score)
□ NO VIABLE BEHAVIORS
Next step: □ Generate more candidates
□ Design interventions to raise limiting dimension
□ Reconsider outcome for this population
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SECTION 4: LIMITING FACTOR ANALYSIS (If needed)
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If the selected behavior has a dimension scoring 6-7 (borderline), or if you
need to raise a dimension to make a behavior viable, identify specific barriers:
Limiting Dimension: ______________________________________________________________
Specific Barriers:
1. ______________________________________________________________________________
2. ______________________________________________________________________________
3. ______________________________________________________________________________
Potential Interventions:
1. ______________________________________________________________________________
2. ______________________________________________________________________________
3. ______________________________________________________________________________

SCORING GUIDANCE
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
9-10: Strongly supports behavior; users would do this naturally
7-8: Supports behavior; minor friction at most
5-6: Neutral; neither strongly supports nor inhibits
3-4: Inhibits behavior; would require significant intervention
1-2: Strongly blocks behavior; major barrier to overcome
REMEMBER: The minimum score determines viability. A behavior scoring 9/9/4
will fail because the 4 is the bottleneck.
